Over the past few months, I've been pondering the age-old question - what's the meaning of my life? At the same time, my husband and best friend, K, and a few good friends have been encouraging me to publicly share my food exploits through my travels.
I must admit, I have a wanderlust. I find such delight in travel adventures and learning about other cultures. Most of all, I take great satisfaction in absorbing the vibe of a place through its culinary delights. Ah, the joys of discovery!
So, I'm making a leap of fate. Welcome to Foodie Lab. Where passion for travel collides with passion for food and the sensual experiences that come with degustation.
First stop - Marrakech. Take a deep breath and close your eyes for a second.
Medina, dust, labyrinthine alleys, call to prayers, birds chirping, children's voices, crowds and then...
That unmistakable scent.
Exotic, mysterious, warm, colorful and oh so fragrant.
The spice souks...and the natural benefits, according to Moroccans, of these exotic #spices...
Coriander- stimulant and tonic for your digestive system
Cinnamon - good for stomach ailments and a great substitute for sugar for diabetics
Saffron - antidote for urinary tract infection. A little amount goes a long way
Cumin - fights digestive disorders, coughs and colic. Legend says that Morrocan cumin is the most fragrant of all.
Paprika - decongestant and soothes the throat, also promotes digestion
Parsley - good source of vitamin C, minerals, diuretic and prevents bloating
Peppermint - helps with digestion and first aid for headaches.
Spices are the essence of food. It's only appropriate to start here.
